DPIIT stresses the need to build capacity in the toy industry to boost manufacturing and exports
New Delhi, July 6 (KNN) The Department of Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT) on Tuesday urged India’s toy industry to focus on building its capacity and working on big concepts to advance its manufacturing segment and export.
This suggestion was given during the Toy Fair held at Pragati Maidan in New Delhi.
Speaking on the occasion, Anil Agarwal, Additional Secretary of DPIIT, said government initiatives such as increasing import duties and issuing quality control order have helped to reduce imports. and promote manufacturing.
“Now it’s time for the industry to ‘think big ideas,'” he added.
Hailing the revenue growth in the toy industry, Agarwal said the industry needed to reach new heights to become a unicorn.
“They need to bring professionalism in their management in addition to capacity building,” he said.
Highlighting India’s small share in the $120 billion global toy industry, Manu Gupta, promoter of Playgro Toys India, said the industry needed more government support for the industry to reach a higher level, generates jobs and stimulates exports.
The fair was organized after a three-year hiatus due to the covid-19 pandemic.
