Many years ago, entrepreneurs AJ Osmeña and Arvin Alvarez visited a sex toy store as a challenge. Little did they know that this seedy and uninviting experience would lead them to run their own store, with the goal of changing the way sex toys are sold in the Philippines.

In 2016, AJ and Arvin opened Ilya as a safe space for young Filipinos who are truly curious about pleasure and sexual health.

With the recent surge in sales amid the coronavirus pandemic, Ilya believes the Philippine market is finally opening up to such discussions. In addition to selling products, Ilya partners with various experts to provide education on these so-called “taboo topics”.

We thought, how about trying to normalize the idea of sex toys? And the best way to do it was to make it fun.
