Take a tour of the new Midco toy store in Burton

A Burton toy store moved to a brand new, bigger store in town and we had a chance to take a look around ahead of the big opening day.

Midco Toymaster opens in The Octagon Mall on Monday April 12, after leaving High Street.

The former Evans clothing store is now unrecognizable with toys on the shelves and the displays are ready to welcome impatient children and their families, wanting to get a glimpse of all it has to offer.

Owner David Middleton said preparing the new store for opening was bittersweet as his beloved mother Carol passed away the same day he collected the keys.

As they were getting ready, he can imagine her glancing around the store and showing where the stock should go and telling her where to put it. She had been a huge supporter of the store since it opened on New Street 19 years ago.

Mr Middleton said: “I’m glad it’s done. It felt a bit sucked because of the loss of my mother.

“The move was not bad, the Octagon was really good for us. I can’t fault the director of the center.

“It’s been a breath of fresh air compared to what we’re used to as nothing has been too much trouble. I can’t fault them.

“Everything is pretty much here now and not much is missing. Squishmallows and Pokemon are very hot right now.

“It looks bigger and we’re pretty happy with it. We keep changing things.

“People can come in and see we have the Lego so they know we’re a good toy store and the Squishmallows and Pokémon are up front.

“We did well during the lockdown because we had the click and collect. It was phenomenal.

“We put something in place to say that we had the Pokemon Shining Fates and it was gone crazy. The phones kept ringing all day.

“We’ve had positive feedback on Facebook. People seem excited and ask if they can come over now. We’ve got everything we had in the old store and other weirder stuff, the latest trends and flavors of the month . “

Some additions to the store include new American and Japanese candy and Baby Monsters puppets as well as a larger selection of customer favorites.
