The opening date of the toy store in Derbion revealed

An award-winning toy retailer has revealed when its brand new store will open in Derby’s biggest shopping centre. Toy Planet is moving into a new unit that is twice the size of its current store in Derbion.

Currently positioned next to Starbucks on the ground floor, the local independent retailer is moving to a new location next to KRCS and Trespass on the same floor. The move will see the brand add over 1,200 square feet to its footprint.

Now, the scheduled opening date has been revealed to be Saturday, April 30 at 9 a.m. A Midco Toys/Toy Planet spokesperson posted on their Facebook page to say, “Mark the date on your calendar. We have a date to work on. If all goes well, we’ll see you at 9:00 a.m. on April 30.

“More details to come. Twice the size of our current store. Everything you love about Toy Planet and more.”

Adam Tamsett, Managing Director of Derbion, said: “We are delighted that another of our retailers has shown real confidence in the city by investing in a much larger space in Derbion. We are thrilled to see Toy Planet reopen the doors to their refreshed store and for visitors to see the fantastic changes to their space! »

In January, the retailer was crowned Independent Toy Retailer of the Year (Multi-Store) at the 2021 Toy Industry Awards, held at London’s Olympia. It’s not the first time they’ve won the accolade, having already received the award in 2013.

At the time of the award presentation, Derbion Store Manager Rob Simms shared some of the reasons for their success. He said, “Hard work, dedication and knowledge. We always have the latest toys and the most unusual ones too. We don’t just stay in one lane, we branch out and do other things too. We’re pretty hot on Anime and we have an adult collection with horror and things like that.”

The company, which does business as Midco Toys, also has a Toymaster store at The Octagon shopping center in Burton. There’s currently a storefront up there set up by Ty Warner, founder and creator of the internationally renowned TY toymaker.

In other Derbion news, Jack Wills, who stocks men’s and women’s fashion, is opening a new store this spring, ending his two-and-a-half-year absence from the town centre.

The highly anticipated opening of Frasers is set to take place by the end of this year. Work on the new department store, spread over three floors of the shopping center, should start this summer before an opening scheduled for the last months of 2022.

Flannels, which stocks designer brands such as Balenciaga, Burberry and Dolce & Gabbana, opened on Level 2 of the city’s mall in mid-December. Spanish fashion brand Mango opened its new store on level 2 in mid-November. It offers a range of women’s fashion and accessories, as well as men’s clothing, children’s clothing and homewares.
