Toy store owner and wife brutally stabbed by man for business rivalry; probe on

Chandīgarh: In another shocking incident, a toy shop owner was reportedly stabbed to death and his wife injured on Wednesday at Booth Market in Sector 26 of Chandigarh.

Avtar Singh, 39, from Bapu Dham settlement, has been identified as the deceased victim. Simranjit Kaur, his injured wife, was admitted to hospital, The Indian Express reported.

Jai Kishan (29) also owns a toy store in Booth Market, just opposite victim Avtar Singh’s store. According to authorities, Kishan killed Avtar Singh in order to eliminate his business competition. Police further said the two traders frequently argued.

According to sources, Avtar Singh was stabbed in the chest near the heart. When Kaur tried to save her husband, Kishan stabbed her in the stomach. The accused assailant is currently at large.

Kuldeep Singh, brother of victim Avtar Singh, drove the injured couple to GMSH-16 in a private vehicle. Avtar Singh died minutes after arriving at the hospital from his serious injuries. Kaur’s health is said to be stable.

Kishan will be arrested shortly, according to police.
