The Vintage Toy Exchange opened at 37 Dale Road in Matlock on Friday, October 22, and welcomed wave after wave of curious and attentive shoppers throughout the weekend.
Owned and managed by the Morgan family, it moved from another local to Dale Road as the latest part of a significant investment in a business that opened in December 2019, only to be hit by blockages and the uncertainty that followed.
Senior Partner John Morgan said, âHindsight is a great manager, and there were times I thought we would never make it.
“However, adversity has multiplied the opportunities and the decision to invest and move forward has allowed us to get to where we are – a new store, new offices, a very active Internet business and Nationwide trade shows, all supported by a team of partners and staff.
The store specializes in old and new collectible toys and draws on John’s expertise after nearly 40 years of work as a dealer and auctioneer.
He said: âDuring my time in the industry the ‘wheel of fortune’ certainly turned and the buzzwords of the early 1980s – Matchbox Yesteryear, tin trains, Hornby Dublo – were replaced by Star wars, ghost hunters, Masters of the Universe to name a few.
âHowever, the one aspect of the business opportunity that I didn’t foresee was the number of kids who would visit and take care of it saw us diversify the product line into newer toys, although everything the stock has a common denominator in that it is ‘pre-liked’, although very often not played with.
He added, âWe are also always looking for inventory. It’s a little ironic that at a time when headlines are making the headlines of toy shortages, our company’s rather ironic inventory policy is ringing in my ears: “We never have enough … even though we have too many. ” “
For now, the new boutique will be open on Fridays and Saturdays as well as at certain times of the week. Private appointments are also available.
